WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 8) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team hosted Allegheny on Saturday night for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown. After the Gators opened the scoring, the Yellow Jackets answered the challenge with a goal of their own that brought the eventual final score of 1-1.
The draw ran Waynesburg's (3-4-5, 1-1-4) current undefeated streak to five games.
After the two teams played through a scoreless first half, Allegheny (3-6-3, 2-2-1) opened the scoring with a goal late in the 56
th minute, the Jackets logged their only score of the night less than 10 minutes later.
Junior
Grace Ingram (Valencia, Pa. / Mars) just missed finding the back of the net when she unleashed a free kick that banged off the crossbar. Luckily, junior
Madey Hill (Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) was in the right place at the right time to gather the loose ball and deposit it into the netting with 24:53 showing on the game clock.
That score swung momentum squarely in the home team's favor, as the Jackets were able to come up with two more solid scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, both tries were turned away by the Gator goalkeeper, including one from junior
Jacinda Devart (Grafton, W.Va. / Grafton) with just 3:15 left to play.
Senior
Kennedy Schuck (Marietta, Ohio / Marietta) put together another solid night in net. Over 90 minutes, she racked up three saves.
Though Allegheny out-shot the Jackets 12-9 on the night, Waynesburg logged seven shots on goal to just four for the visitors.
The Orange and Black will look to keep its unbeaten streak going on Tuesday, Oct .11, when it makes a road trip to Bethany. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
