Jacket women open PAC play

Robinson's 21 points not enough against Chatham

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Nov. 16) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play at Chatham on Wednesday evening. The Yellow Jacket fell 72-51 to the host Cougars.

Things started well for the visiting Jackets (0-2, 0-1), who built an early 7-2 lead. A pair of mid-range jump shots from freshman Tori Wesolowski (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) combined with a three-pointer from junior Avery Robinson (Ravenna, Ohio / Ravenna) allowed the Jackets to take the early edge.

Unfortunately, struggles with shooting and turnovers plagued the Orange and Black for nearly all 40 minutes of play. Both of those issues allowed Chatham (3-0, 1-0) to use a 16-4 run to end the first quarter with an 18-11 lead.

Things didn't get much better for Waynesburg in quarter number two, as the Cougars grew their advantage to 32-16 at halftime. The game got much more competitive in the second half, but the hole was simply too deep for the Yellow Jackets to dig out of as they dropped their 2022-23 PAC opener.

One bright spot was Robinson, who poured in a game-high 21 points on nine-of-19 shooting. She knocked down a trio of three pointers, grabbed four rebounds and swiped three steals.

Freshman Clara-Paige Miller (Waynesburg, Pa. / Waynesburg Central) turned in a solid performance off the bench. The Waynesburg native produced 11 points on three-of-six shooting from the floor and a five-for-six effort from the free throw line. She also grabbed five boards and handed out two assists.

Freshman Emma Seto (Allison, Pa. / Brownsville) was a force on the glass, as she grabbed a game and personal collegiate-high 13 rebounds, seven of which were of the offensive variety.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 19, when they travel to Bethany to face the Bison in another PAC matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
