LATROBE, Pa. (Nov. 30) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team traveled to Saint Vincent on Wednesday evening for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup. Offensive struggles in quarters two and three played a big role in the Yellow Jackets falling 66-50.
Waynesburg (0-6, 0-4) never led throughout the contest, but stayed within five points of the Bearcats (4-2, 3-1) throughout the first quarter. A layup by junior
Avery Robinson (Ravenna, Ohio / Ravenna) with 1:19 remaining in the opening period had the Jackets within one point (15-14) of tying the score. Saint Vincent was able to counter the field goal with final bucket of the opening 10 minutes.
Unfortunately, the visiting team never got any closer to completing the comeback as the Bearcats outscored Waynesburg 15-4 in quarter number two to bring about a halftime score of 32-18. Saint Vincent's advantage grew to 54-30 at the end of the third period and then to 27 points on multiple occasions in the early portions of the fourth quarter before closing out the win.
Robinson tallied a game-high 19 points in the loss and connected on three-of-six three-point attempts. Senior guard
Anika Dansby (Massilon, Ohio / Washington) tied for the game lead with eight rebounds, four of which were of the offensive variety, to go along with seven points.
Waynesburg plays the first of two back-to-back non-PAC games on Saturday, Dec. 3, when it travels to Carnegie Mellon. Tipoff from Pittsburgh is at 2 p.m.
