WASHINGTON, Pa. (April 10) – The Waynesburg University baseball team traveled north to face Washington & Jefferson for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader on Saturday. It was a rough day on the diamond for the Yellow Jackets, who were swept by the final scores of 15-1 and 11-1.
The Presidents (16-6, 9-0) set the pace early with seven runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back as they further cemented themselves in their usual spot at the top of the PAC standings. The Jackets (7-15, 3-7) picked up their lone run of the opener in the bottom of the sixth. Junior shortstop
Todd Burner (Parkersburg, W.Va. / Parkersburg South) recorded an RBI groundout that scored freshman
Bryce Bedilion (Clarksville, Pa. / Jefferson-Morgan).
The Yellow Jackets trailed just 1-0 after three innings of play. However, W&J posted another huge inning, this time putting up eight runs in the bottom of the fourth. The visitors scored their lone run in the top of the eighth on an RBI double by senior
Nolan Porterfield (Connellsville, Pa. / Connellsville) that allowed freshman
Strachan Doran (Rhinebeck, N.Y. / Rhinebeck) to sprint home.
The Jackets and Presidents meet back up in Waynesburg on Monday, April 11, for a single conference tilt. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
