WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 13) – The Waynesburg University baseball team completed its three-game season series with Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday with a home nine-inning Presidents' Athletic Conference contest. The Yellow Jackets fell by the final score of 10-1.
The first two innings of the game began as a pitchers' duel with Yellow Jacket (7-16, 3-8) sophomore
Justin Clevenger (McDonald, Pa. / South Fayette) matching his mound opponent by tossing two scoreless innings. Unfortunately, everything changed in the third, when W&J (18-6, 11-0) struck for seven runs and took firm control of the matchup.
Waynesburg cut its deficit down to six runs with a score in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman centerfielder
Bryce Bedilion (Clarksville, Pa. / Jefferson-Morgan) did the job with flair by drilling an RBI triple that plated graduate student
Zach Straub (Bethel Park, Pa. / Bethel Park).
W&J snuffed out any hope of completing the comeback with two runs in the sixth and one more in the ninth on its way to victory.
Waynesburg got some solid middle relief work from senior
Chris Agnew (McKees Rocks, Pa. / Montour) and junior Logan Gotshall (Cresson, Pa. / Bishop Carroll), who combined to work three combined hitless innings. Agnew walked two and struck out two over his 1.2 frames on the bump.
The Jackets are scheduled to get right back to work tomorrow, when they host Westminster for a PAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 1 p.m.
