WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 14) – The Waynesburg University baseball team hosted Westminster on Thursday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader. The two teams locked horns in a pair of well-played contests. Unfortunately, the Titans left town with a couple of wins over the Yellow Jackets.
Senior pitcher
Corey Fischer (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Bethel Park) continued to put together his best collegiate season to lead Waynesburg (7-18, 3-10) in game one, which the Titans (16-7, 11-3) took 2-1. Fischer worked a seven-inning complete game in which he allowed two earned runs on six hits and a walk. He picked up a pair of strikeouts in his latest outing.
All three of the game's runs were scored in the second inning. Freshman
Aidan Williams (Shaler, Pa. / Shaler) teed off on his first homerun of the season to provide the Jackets with their only run of the opener.
Waynesburg edged Westminster in hits by a 7-6 margin. Two of those base knocks came from freshman
Alec Engelmore (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler).
Westminster completed the sweep with a 4-0 victory in game two. All of the game's scoring was done through a pair of two-run homers.
Senior
Joe Sabolek (Lynnwood-Pricedale, Pa. / Belle Vernon) was the hard-luck loser on the mound as he allowed just two runs on five hits and a walk, while striking out three over five innings of work. Engelmore gave up just one hit over the final four innings of the contest. He walked three and struck out three in his most recent appearance.
Waynesburg and Westminster are scheduled to wrap up their season series on Saturday, April 16, when they face for one in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. First pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 1 p.m.
