WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 20) – The Waynesburg University women's lacrosse team hosted Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Franciscan on Wednesday for its final home game of the 2022 season. The Yellow Jackets fell 21-5 to the Barons.
Franciscan (6-5, 3-3) built a 4-0 lead over the first 4:30, before junior
Tori Meiklejohn (Boonsboro, Md. / Boonsboro) broke up the shutout thanks in part to an assist from fellow junior
Rachel Caldwell (Ligonier, Pa. / Ligonier Valley). The Barons answered with six unanswered scores. The streak was broken by junior
Eve O'Sullivan (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe), who tallied an unassisted goal that made the score 10-2.
The visitors scored three more times before the end of the second quarter and took a 13-2 advantage into halftime. Waynesburg (0-10, 0-6) got the first goal of the second half thanks to Meiklejohn's second of the evening.
After Caldwell scored with 2:30 remaining in the third, Meiklejohn completed the hat trick with 11:40 left to play in the contest.
Caldwell snatched a team-high four draw controls for the Jackets, while junior
Marina Hastings (Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) scooped a squad-best three ground balls. Freshman goalkeeper
Anna Bradley (Bridgeville, Pa. / South Fayette) played all 60 minutes in net and racked up 10 saves.
Waynesburg is next in action on Saturday, April 23, when it travels to Washington & Jefferson. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
