Box Score 2 WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 2) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team made a couple of stops during a Saturday road trip to Northwestern Pennsylvania. The long day was worth it for the Yellow Jackets, who swept a pair of matches with Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Thiel and non-conference opponent Penn State Behrend.
The Jackets (5-4, 1-2) opened their day by blanking the Tomcats (0-5, 0-2) 9-0. Senior
Joey English (Smithfield, Pa. / Homeschooled) and sophomore
Ethan Lown (Lebanon, Pa. / Elizabethtown) got things going with an 8-1 win at first doubles. Graduate student
Conor Cassidy (Huntingtown, Md. / Huntingtown) and freshman
Rory Montreuil won by the same score at the number-two slot, while junior
Michael Saliba (New Kensington, Pa. / Valley) and sophomore
Adam Huckstein (Saxonburg, Pa. / Knoch) took their third doubles contest 8-2.
All six men who competed in doubles competition swept their respective singles matches to close out the win.
After making the short trip from Greenville to Erie, Waynesburg battled Behrend (9-11) in the late contest, which the Yellow Jackets took by the final score of 6-3.
English and Lown came out on top against their opponents at first doubles by the tally of 8-6. The Orange and Black added a second doubles victory thanks to Montreuil and Cassidy, who downed the opposition at the number-two spot 8-3.
Cassidy, Lown, Montreuil and Saliba posted straight-set singles victories to close out Waynesburg's latest win.
After a busy Saturday on the courts, Waynesburg will get Sunday off to prepare for Monday's PAC match at Westminster. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
