Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's lacrosse hosts PAC-leading Grove City

Yellow Jackets hang around early, before Wolverines pull away for 19-3 win

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 7) – The Waynesburg University women's lacrosse team hosted Grove City Thursday night at John F. Wiley Stadium. The Yellow Jackets managed to stick with the top team in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) during the first quarter, but the Wolverines eventually pulled away for a 19-3 win.

After Grove City (10-1, 4-0) scored the game's first two goals, Waynesburg (0-7, 0-4) answered with a tally from junior Eve O'Sullvain (Latrobe, Pa. / Latrobe) with 10:12 remaining in the first quarter.

The Wolverines responded with three-straight scores, but junior Rachel Caldwell (Ligonier, Pa. / Ligonier Valley) cut the Jacket deficit to 5-2 by splitting the pipes nearly 10 minutes into the contest. Grove City scored the final goal of the quarter while on the man-up advantage, but the host squad trailed by just four (6-2) when the second period got underway.

Unfortunately, the second 15 minutes of action belonged to the visitors, who scored five times and took an 11-2 advantage into the halftime break. Junior Tori Meiklejohn (Boonsboro, Md. / Boonsboro) opened the second-half scoring to pull her team within eight goals, but the Wolverines put victory out of reach with the final eight tallies of the evening.

O'Sullivan added a team-high two assists to her goal for a three-point night and led Waynesburg with five total shots. She was also one of four Waynesburg players with three ground balls each. Only freshman starting goalkeeper Anna Bradley (Bridgeville, Pa. / South Fayette) had more with six.

Bradley played all 60 minutes in net, as she has done in every game this season. She totaled 14 saves in her most recent complete-game effort.

Waynesburg will step aside from PAC competition to host NCAA Division II opponent West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday. The game, which will also serve as the Yellow Jackets' senior day, is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
