Women's soccer kicks off 2022 campaign

Yellow Jackets fall 2-0 at Lancaster Bible College

LANCASTER, Pa. (Sept. 1) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team opened up the 2022 season on Thursday night with a road trip to Lancaster Bible College. The Yellow Jackets held advantages in most of the day's offensive statistics, but it wasn't enough as the Chargers buried a pair of second-half goals to grab the 2-0 victory.

Waynesburg (0-1) outshot Lancaster Bible (1-0) 12-5 and held a 5-3 edge in shots on goal. The Jackets also attempted six corner kicks while the Chargers made just two attempts from the flags.

The eventual game-winning tally found the back of the net late in the 63rd minute of the contest. The host squad tacked on an insurance goal midway through the 65th minute to close out the victory.

Freshmen Riley Corradi (Darlington, Pa. / Blackhawk) and Olivia Straka (Morrisdale, Pa. / West Branch) both logged their first collegiate shots on goal. Sophomore Brooklyn Loveland (New Cumberland, W.Va. / Oak Glen) recorded a game-high two attempts on net, while junior Grace Ingram (Valencia, Pa. / Mars) also put one on the opposing keeper.

Speaking of keepers, Waynesburg senior netminder Autumn Blair (Penn Hills, Pa. / Penn Hills) stopped one of three LBC attempts on net.

The Jackets are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 3, when they travel to Alliance, Ohio, to face the University of Mount Union. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
