Women's soccer earns hard-fought draw at Mount Union

Waynesburg erases 2-0 deficit; Blair shines in second hald of 2-2 tie

ALLIANCE, Ohio (Sept. 3) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team hit the road on Saturday for a trip to the University of Mount Union. After falling behind early, the Yellow Jackets showed their mettle by battling back and earning a 2-2 tie.

The host Purple Raiders (0-0-1) came out firing and jumped out to a 2-0 lead after goals in the 11th and 19th minutes. Roughly 10:30 later, sophomore Brooklyn Loveland (New Cumberland, W.Va. / Oak Glen) notched her first goal of the season late in the 29th minute to get Waynesburg (0-1-1) on the board and make the score 2-1.

Late in the 44th minute, freshman Chloe Zook (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) knotted things up at 2-2 after taking a feed from junior Kate James (Silver Spring, Md. / St. John's College H.S.) and finding the back of the net just seven seconds before the end of the half.

The final 45 minutes of play belonged to senior goalkeeper Autumn Blair (Penn Hills, Pa. / Penn Hills), who kept her team in contention for a win despite facing 13 shots from Mount Union, five of which were on net.

Waynesburg returns to the pitch on Tuesday, Sept. 6, when it heads to La Roche. Start time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
