PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Sept. 6) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team continued to show the fighting spirit that has defined the program through the early portion of the season on Tuesday, when it made a road trip to La Roche. That tenacity finally paid off, as the Yellow Jackets came back from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat the Redhawks 3-2.
The Hawks (0-1-2) found the back of the net first with a goal in the sixth minute. Waynesburg (1-1-1) tied things up midway through the 35
th minute, when freshman
Reagan Mittendorf (Bluffton, Ohio / Bluffton) posted her first collegiate goal to tie things up at 1-1. That was the also the score when the two squads broke for halftime.
The Jackets took their first lead of the evening during the 54
th minute, thanks to the efforts of junior
Grace Ingram (Valencia, Pa. / Mars), who logged her initial goal of the season. That edge lasted 9:19, as the Redhawks tied the score at 2-2 late in the 63
rd minute.
Momentum swung back into the visiting team's favor 3:30 later, when Ingram posted goal number two of the game to bring about the final score of 3-2. The Jackets were able to run out the final 22:32 of the game to secure their first victory of the 2022 campaign.
Despite the tightly contested nature of the game, Waynesburg held noticeable advantages in multiple offensive categories. The Jackets out-shot La Roche 18-6 and logged 10 more shots on goal (16-6). The Orange and Black also doubled up the Hawks in terms of corner kicks (6-3).

Mya Riggle (Ford City, Pa. / Armstrong) earned her first collegiate victory in net after stopping two-of-three shots on goal during the second half. Senior
Autumn Blair (Penn Hills, Pa. / Penn Hills) started and made two saves over the first 45 minutes of action.
The Jackets play their long-awaited home opener on Saturday, Sept. 10, when Mount Aloysius comes to John F. Wiley Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
