MEADVILLE, Pa. (Sept. 17) – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team traveled to Allegheny College on Saturday for a pair of matches at the Allegheny Gator Invitational. The Yellow Jackets dropped their opener 3-0 to the host Gators, before falling 3-1 to Mount Aloysius.
Waynesburg (2-8) dropped match one by the set scores of 25-12, 25-19, 25-12 to the homestanding Gators (7-7). Junior
Trysten Smith (Senecaville, Ohio / Shenandoah) led the Jackets in the opener by posting a double-double on a team-high 11 assts and 10 digs.
Senior
Kayla Stohon (Summerhill, Pa. / Forest Hills) paced the Waynesburg attack with five kills in the opener, while senior
Alexys Marsh (Panama, N.Y. / Panama Central) and Smith chipped in four successful attacks each.
Match two saw Mount Aloysius (2-10) jump out to a 1-0 lead with a 25-20 triumph in the first set. Waynesburg rebounded by downing the Mounties 25-18. Unfortunately for the Orange and Black Mount Aloysius took sets three and four by the scores of 25-16 and 25-21, respectively.
Smith posted her second double-double of the day with a match-high 31 assists and 19 digs. Speaking of digs, sophomore
Jordan Stein (Manor, Pa. / Norwin) logged a team-high 23 to pace the Jacket defense.
Once again, Stohon led the Jacket attack, this time with 11 kills. Freshman Paige Mortimer (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Brentwood) chipped in eight successful attacks in the late contest.
Following the conclusion of the event, Stohon was named to the Allegheny Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Waynesburg returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 20, when it faces Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Chatham in a non-PAC match. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
