WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 17) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team hosted Baldwin Wallace on Saturday night for a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match. In a battle of the Yellow Jackets, it was the visiting team that came out on the right end of a 3-1 final score.
Baldwin Wallace (5-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals late in the 14
th and 24
th minutes. Despite its early deficit, Waynesburg (2-3-1) didn't give up the fight and battled back with a score just 22 seconds before halftime. Senior
Sarah Rentler (Mount Lebanon, Pa. / Mount Lebanon) took a corner kick from junior
Grace Ingram (Valencia, Pa. / Mars) and found the back of the net to cut the Baldwin Wallace lead down to 2-1, which was also the tally at halftime.
The home team kept on battling into the second half to keep the deficit at just a single goal. Unfortunately, BW picked up an insurance goal late in the 71
st minute to bring about the final score.
Though she took the loss, senior goalkeeper
Autumn Blair (Penn Hills, Pa. / Penn Hills) did everything she could to give Waynesburg a shot at victory. She piled up 14 saves as Baldwin Wallace unleased 32 total shots (17 on goal).
The Jackets turn their attention to PAC competition on Wednesday, Sept. 21, when they host Franciscan for a fourth-straight home game. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
