LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 22) – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team traveled to Saint Vincent on Thursday night. The Yellow Jackets fell 3-0 to the host Bearcats.
Saint Vincent (7-3) took the match by the set scores of 25-13, 25-21 and 25-22.
Waynesburg (2-10) was led offensively by freshman
Paige Mortimore (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Brentwood), who put down a team-high eight kills. Senior
Kayla Stohon (Summerhill, Pa. / Forest Hills) chipped in seven successful attacks. Junior
Trysten Smith (Senecaville, Ohio / Shenandoah) did her job for the Jackets by piling up a match-high 18 assists.
Defensively, Waynesburg was paced by junior
Mickayla Baniaga (Kalihi, Hawaii / Kamehameha Schools Kapalama), who racked up a contest-best 34 digs. That total was six more than the next-closest player. Mortimer and sophomore
Emma Hyatt (Carmichaels, Pa. / Carmichaels) were tied for the match lead with two blocks.
The Jackets return to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse on Saturday, Sept. 24, when they host Bethany. Start time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
