WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 8) – Congratulations go out to the first Waynesburg University Athletes of the Week of the 2022-23 school year. Junior cross country runner Gabi Reifsnyder (Carlisle, Pa. / Big Spring) led the Yellow Jackets in their opening meet of the season, while freshman linebacker Austin Derr (Mifflintown, Pa. / Juniata) was recognized by the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) for his work at Gallaudet this Saturday.
 
Reifsnyder finished 10^th in the 53-woman field at Friday's Washington & Jefferson Invitational with a time of 21:41.65. Thanks in part to that time, the Yellow Jackets finished second in the team standings behind only NCAA Division II member Seton Hill.
 
Derr was named PAC Rookie of the Week after posting a game-high 10 tackles that included 2.5 tackles for loss in a 52-14 victory over the Bison.
 
The Waynesburg men's and women's cross country teams are back in action tomorrow, when they compete in the PAC Preview, which is being hosted by Saint Vincent. Race time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The football team will try to carry its momentum over from an impressive season debut to Saturday, Sept. 10, when its hosts fellow Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) member Case Western Reserve for a non-conference showdown. Kickoff from John F. Wiley Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
