WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 21) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team hosted Bethany for a very special Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on Saturday. Waynesburg hosted more than three dozen of its former Yellow Jacket women's basketball players, who were recognized at halftime. Unfortunately, the current Jackets couldn't send their predecessors home with a victory, as the Bison scored a 75-54 win.
Waynesburg (2-15, 2-10) opened the scoring with a field goal from senior guard
Anika Dansby (Massilon, Ohio / Washington). Unfortunately, that was the last time the Yellow Jackets held the lead on the day, as Bethany (5-13, 5-8) ended the first quarter with a 17-10 advantage.
A pair of free throws from freshman
Tori Wesolowski (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon McMillan) and a field goal by junior
Avery Robinson (Ravenna, Ohio / Ravenna) cut the Jacket deficit down to three points (17-14) in the opening moments of the second quarter. That was as close as Waynesburg came to tying the score on the day, but kept the pressure on the visitors before the two teams went into the locker room with a 30-26 score.
Waynesburg was led by Wesolowski, who scored a team-high 12 points on four-of-six shooting on the floor and four-of-six shooting at the foul line. Freshman
Emma Seto (Allison, Pa. / Brownsville) set game highs in both total rebounds (nine) and offensive boards (five). Robinson chipped in 10 points and tied for the game lead with four steals.
The game was ultimately decided from three-point range, where Bethany knocked down 11 attempts. Waynesburg converted a pair of treys.
The Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 25, when they host Saint Vincent for another PAC contest. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
