Women's soccer shuts out Bethany

Freshmen score all three goals, Riggle blanks Bison in 3-0 victory

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 11) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team hosted Bethany on Wednesday night for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup at John F. Wiley Stadium. A pair of Yellow Jacket freshmen powered the offense, while sophomore goalkeeper Mya Riggle (Ford City, Pa. / Armstrong) shut out the Bison in a 3-0 victory.

Freshman Kaitlyn Prickett (Pendleton, Ind. / Pendleton Heights) opened the scoring with a true highlight goal in the 13th minute. Prickett let fly with a shot from near the Bethany (2-7-3, 1-5) end line and bent it into the far upper corner of the goal mouth to provide what wound up being the game-winning goal.

Though Waynesburg (6-4-2, 4-1-2) outshot the Jackets 15-3 in the first 45 minutes, the Bison were able to keep the deficit at 1-0. The home team needed little time to add to its advantage once the second half got underway.

Freshman Julz Mohrbacher (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom) needed just 44 seconds to score her team-leading 11th goal of the year and make the score 2-0. Senior Kate James (Silver Spring, Md. / St. Johns' College H.S.)  assisted on the goal with her team and PAC-leading eighth assist of 2023.

The Orange and Black maintained its 2-0 advantage until the 82nd minute, when Prickett logged her second goal of the night and her first multi-goal output of the year.

Riggle stopped all six shots on goal that she faced for her first complete game shutout of the season.

Waynesburg outshot Bethany 25-10 and outdid the Bison 13-6 in shots on goal.

Waynesburg is back in action on Saturday, October 14, when it faces the number one team in the PAC, the Westminster Titans. Start time from New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, is scheduled for 1 p.m.
