WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 17) – Congratulations go out to the latest Waynesburg University Athletes of the Week. Junior volleyball player
Jordan Stein (Manor, Pa. / Norwin) eclipsed a major statistical milestone, while senior football player
Chase Nicomatti (Port Vue, Pa. / South Allegheny) was living in Saint Vincent's backfield this past Saturday.
Stein tallied 62 digs over nine sets between two matches this past week for a 6.89 digs per set average. Her personal-best 45 digs against Westminster, which helped lead the Jackets to a 3-2 victory over the Titans, allowed the junior to eclipse 1,000 as a Jackets. Stein added 17 digs against Washington & Jefferson on Saturday. She currently leads the PAC with a 5.95 digs per set average and was honored as the Presidents' Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Nicomatti enjoyed his best day as a Yellow Jacket during Waynesburg's 24-0 win over Saint Vincent on Saturday. He tallied three sacks and forced a fumble as the Yellow Jacket defense posted its first shutout in nine years and held the Bearcats to 138 yards of total offense.
The Waynesburg volleyball team is back in action tomorrow when it travels to Franciscan for a PAC match. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Yellow Jacket gridders are back in action on Saturday, when they travel to Case Western Reserve for a 2 p.m. contest.
