Yellow Jackets drop 3-1 final score to Bearcats

LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 21) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team traveled to Saint Vincent on Saturday to face the Bearcats in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup. The two league rivals split the first two sets, but it was the home team that claimed sets three and four and earned a 3-1 victory.

Saint Vincent (9-11, 3-4) opened the contest with a 25-16 win in set one, before Waynesburg (8-13, 1-5) rebounded with a 25-21 triumph. The Bearcats regained control of the match with a 25-14 victory in set three. The Jackets built a 13-12 edge in set four, but the Green and Gold answered the challenge with a 7-0 surge that eventually led to a 25-20 match-clinching win.

Sophomore Paige Mortimore (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Brentwood) put together a solid all-around day on the court for Waynesburg with eight kills, 16 digs and two aces. Junior Emma Hyatt (Carmichaels, Pa. / Carmichaels) tallied a team-high 10 kills, while sophomore Riley Ruffley (Bedford, Pa. / Bedford) helped out with 14 assists.

Defensively, the Jackets were led by the duo of freshman Carissa Krall (Johnstown, Pa. / Westmont Hilltop) and junior Jordan Stein (Manor, Pa. / Norwin). Krall tied for the match lead with three blocks, while Stein logged a squad-best 17 digs.
