Volleyball hosts Thiel for PAC match

Yellow Jackets drop 3-0 match to Tomcats

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 28) – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team hosted Thiel on Saturday afternoon for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup. The Tomcats came out on top with a 3-0 victory.

Waynesburg (8-15, 1-7 PAC) looked poised to take the opening set, but Thiel (3-20, 1-7) clawed its way back to steal set one 29-27. The Tomcats took the final two sets 25-14 and 25-18, respectively.

The Yellow Jackets trailed 8-5 in the opening set, but pieced together a 12-3 run to hold a 17-11 lead. The two sides exchanged points and the Yellow Jackets held a 23-17 lead. A 5-0 run by Thiel cut the deficit to one but a Tomcats service error gave the Jackets set point. Unfortunately, the Tomcats closed the set on a 7-3 run to take the set.

Junior Emma Hyatt (Carmichaels, Pa. / Carmichaels) posted a team-best nine kills on 20 swings to hit .350 for the match. Hyatt also notched a match high-tying four blocks.

Junior Madisen Dayton (Ridgeley, W. Va. / Calvary Christian) and sophomore Paige Mortimore (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Brentwood) each chipped in seven kills for the Jackets. Freshman Kendall Ellsworth (Carmichaels, Pa. / Carmichaels Area) posted a double-double with 11 assists and 10 digs.

Sophomore Riley Ruffley (Bedford, Pa. / Bedford) notched a team-best 13 assists while junior libero Jordan Stein (Manor, Pa. / Norwin) led the Jackets with 12 digs.
