WASHINGTON, Pa. (Oct. 4) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team traveled north to Washington & Jefferson for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown on Wednesday night. The two teams went back and forth over 90 minutes of play and by the time the final whistle was blown, the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
With the tie, Waynesburg (5-3-2, 3-0-2) ran its current unbeaten streak to five games.
W&J (6-2-3, 2-1-2) opened the scoring 8:27 into the contest to take an early 1-0 edge. The Yellow Jackets responded with junior
Brooklyn Loveland's (New Cumberland, W.Va. / Oak Glen) first of the season, which came in the 15
th minute and knotted the score at 1-1.
The two conference and geographical rivals stayed tied through halftime. Late in the 51
st minute, the Presidents regained the advantage at 2-1 and kept it until the 80:44 mark when senior
Kate James (Silver Springs, Md. / St. John's College H.S.) played a corner kick perfectly for fellow senior
Madey Hill (Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) who buried the equalizer.
The two teams played out the final 9:16 of the night, with neither able to find the back of the net.
Most of the night's statistics were split evenly between the two teams, with the exception of shots on goal. Waynesburg doubled up the Presidents 16-8 in that category.
Freshman
Alexus Greenlief (Chester, W.Va. / Oak Glen) started and played all 90 minutes in goal for the Orange and Black. She tallied six saves in her latest complete game outing.
Waynesburg returns to competition on Saturday, Oct. 7, when it travels to Allegheny to face the Gators. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
