Jacket women head to Allegheny

Waynesburg sees five-game unbeaten streak end in 3-2 loss

MEADVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 7) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team rode a five-game unbeaten streak into Saturday's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest at Allegheny. The Yellow Jackets led at halftime, but a big second period by the Gators led the home team to a 3-2 victory.

Freshman Julz Mohrbacher (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom) gave the Jackets (5-4-2, 3-1-2) their first-and-only lead of the day when she logged her team-leading 10th goal of the season late in the 35th minute.

Allegheny (6-7, 2-3) began its comeback by tying the score 1-1 3:25 in the second half. The Gators took the lead in the 67th minute and added what turned out to be an important insurance tally with just 2:03 remaining in the contest.

Waynesburg battled until the very end of the contest, as junior Haley Johnson (Somerset, Pa. / Rockwood) managed to slip one past the Gator goalkeeper with only 46 seconds showing on the clock. Mohrbacher assisted on the score, but Waynesburg's last-second comeback try came up just short of salvaging a tie.

Freshman Alexus Greenlief (Chester, W.Va. / Oak Glen) got the start in goal and stopped all three shots she faced over 17:29, before being forced from the game after a collision with an Allegheny player. Sophomore Mya Riggle (Ford City, Pa. / Armstrong) played the remainder of the contest and made three saves of her own

Waynesburg returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 11, when it hosts Bethany for another PAC contest. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
