Jacket women face W&J in PAC action

Yellow Jackets fall 82-65

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Nov. 29) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team returned to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse on Wednesday night to host Washington & Jefferson for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown. The Yellow Jackets fell 82-65 to the Presidents.

The game started with a bang as the two teams combined for 47 points in the first quarter. W&J (0-6, 0-3) never trailed and built a 23-10 lead after 6:44 of play. Waynesburg (0-6, 0-3) rebounded to outscore the Presidents 10-4 over the final 3:16 of the opening quarter.

A field goal by junior Madisen Dayton (Ridgeley, W.Va. / Calvary Christian Academy) to open the second period pulled the Jackets to within five points (27-22) of tying the score. The visitors answered with five points of their own to double their advantage and eventually take a 47-38 lead into halftime.

W&J grasped firm control of the contest in the third quarter by outscoring Waynesburg 16-8 and taking a 63-46 into the final 10 minutes of play. The two teams played to a 19-19 tie in the fourth quarter.

Waynesburg was led by freshman Kayla Howard (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny), who poured in a team-high 15 points, pulled down five rebounds and swatted a game-best three blocks. Senior Marley Wolf (Ellwood City, Pa. / Riverside) joined Howard in double digits with 10 points.

Freshman Julz Mohrbacher (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom) led Waynesburg on the glass with eight rebounds, four of which were of the offensive variety. She also tied for the team lead with three assists.
