WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Feb. 8) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team hosted Grove City on Wednesday night for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup. The Yellow Jackets fell 88-44 to the Wolverines.
Waynesburg (2-20, 2-15) took an early 5-4 lead when freshman
Clara-Paige Miller (Waynesburg, Pa. / Waynesburg Central) knocked down a three pointer with 8:10 remaining in the first quarter. Grove City (14-8, 14-3) answered with a 6-0 run that put the visitors up 10-5. The Wolverines never relinquished the lead from that point forward.
Grove City built a 27-17 advantage after one quarter of play and went to the halftime break up 55-28. The Jackets found some success in the third quarter by outscoring the visitors 12-10 over that 10-minute period. The Wolverines snuffed out the host squad's comeback try by closing things out in the fourth quarter.
Senior
Anika Dansby (Massilon, Ohio / Washington) and freshman
Tori Wesolowski (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) reached double digits in scoring for Waynesburg with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Dansby also pulled in eight rebounds and swiped two steals.
Freshman
Emma Seto (Allison, Pa. / Brownsville) logged a game-high nine rebounds, five of which were of the offensive variety.
The Jackets celebrate senior day on Saturday, Feb. 11, when Washington & Jefferson comes to town. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
