Men's tennis travels to Geneva

Yellow Jackets fall 8-1 to Golden Tornadoes

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (March 30) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team traveled to Geneva on Thursday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match with the Golden Tornadoes. The Yellow Jackets dropped the contest by the final score of 8-1.

Senior Michael Saliba (New Kensington, Pa. / Valley) earned the Jackets' (0-5, 0-2) lone victory on the day against Geneva (3-3. 1-3) by downing his opponent 6-2, 6-2. Though Waynesburg didn't claim victory in any of the other eight flights, the visitors were competitive in several of them.

Junior Ethan Lown (Lebanon, Pa. / Elizbethtown) came up just short of taking the opening set of his first singles match, which went 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 to his opponent. Freshman Anderson Schuller (Westmoreland City, Pa.) bounced back from a 6-1 loss in set one at sixth singles with a 6-4 triumph in set two. Unfortunately, Schuller couldn't' complete the comeback as the third and final set went 10-5 to the opposition.

Saliba and junior Justin North (Plum, Pa. / Plum) battled their opponents at number-two doubles and took the match to a tiebreaker that went 8-7 (7-5).

The Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, April 5, when they host Westminster for another PAC contest. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
