STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (April 19) – The Waynesburg University women's lacrosse team traveled to Franciscan on Wednesday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match. The Yellow Jackets fell 24-2 to the Barons.
Waynesburg (3-10, 0-6) fell behind 3-0, before senior
Eve O'Sullivan (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) opened the scoring for the Yellow Jackets with 8:48 remaining in the first quarter. Franciscan (6-4, 5-1) responded by tallying the final 10 goals of the half to build a 13-1 lead heading into the break.
The Barons ran their lead to 16-1 early in the third quarter, before freshman
Kerry Ryan (Timonium, Md. / Mercy) split the pipes 8:46 into the half. Senior
Tori Meiklejohn (Boonsboro, Md. / Boonsboro) assisted on the score.
The home team scored the final eight goals of the day to close out the victory.
Freshman
Diana Gurecka (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Seton LaSalle) started and played all 60 minutes in goal for the visitors. She tallied seven saves in her most recent start.
The Jackets are back in action on Friday, April 21, when they travel to Washington & Jefferson. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
