Yellow Jackets drop non-PAC match to Muskies

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 3) – The Waynesburg University women's lacrosse team hosted Muskingum on Monday night for a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match on a warm, pleasant evening at John F. Wiley Stadium. The Yellow Jackets fell 21-5 to the visiting Muskies.

The Muskies (5-6) scored the first three goals of the game over 6:21. Waynesburg (2-6) broke up the shutout thanks to the efforts of senior Eve O'Sullivan (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) with 8:20 left to play in the first quarter.

Unfortunately, Muskingum scored the final five goals of the first quarter and tallied all six of the points tallied in the second to build a 14-1 halftime lead. After the Muskies grew their advantage to 15-1, the Jackets got back on the board with a goal from senior Tori Meiklejohn (Boonsboro, Md. / Boonsboro).

Muskingum scored the final four goals of the third quarter and split the pipes in the fourth to make the score 20-2. The Yellow Jackets went on a 3-0 run with scores by O'Sullivan, sophomore Sam Earnest (Honey Brook, Pa. / Conestoga Christian) and Meiklejohn. Muskingum closed the score with a goal at the 59:48 mark.

Along with her two goals, O'Sullivan also tied for the team lead with four groundballs, a mark that was matched by senior Alexis Shandor (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin). O'Sullivan completed a solid all-around night with five draw controls.

Senior Anna Bradley (Bridgeville, Pa. / South Fayette) got the start in goal and played the first 39:46 between the pipes. She tallied five saves before turning goalie duties over to freshman Diana Gurecka (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Seton LaSalle). Gurecka made two saves over 20:14.

The Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, April 5, when they travel to Saint Vincent for a PAC contest. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
