Women's lacrosse faces Saint Vincent

Yellow Jackets fall in road PAC match

LATROBE, Pa. (April 5) – The Waynesburg University women's lacrosse team traveled to Saint Vincent on Wednesday afternoon for a President's Athletic Conference (PAC) battle. The Yellow Jackets struggled to slow the Bearcats' potent offensive attack and fell 23-5.

The Bearcats (6-4, 1-2 PAC) started quickly with a goal 49 seconds into the contest and followed that up with six more first-quarter goals to take a 7-0 lead into the second period.

The Yellow Jackets (2-7, 0-3 PAC) got on the board quickly in the second period as senior Tori Meiklejohn (Boonsboro, Md. / Boonsboro) netted her team-best 23rd goal of the season to get Waynesburg on the board. Unfortunately, the Bearcats responded with six-straight goals to take a 13-1 lead into the half.

Following a trio of Saint Vincent goals in the third quarter, sophomore Sam Earnest (Honey Brook, Pa. / Conestoga Christian) connected for her 12th and 13th goals of the year, the first of which came off an Anna Bradley (Bridgeville, Pa. / South Fayette) assist and the second being unassisted.

Senior Eve O'Sullivan (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) added her 17th goal of the season late in the third quarter as Waynesburg ultimately took an 18-4 deficit into the final frame. O'Sullivan finished the contest with a team high-tying three groundballs.

Meiklejohn added her second goal of the contest in the fourth quarter.

Bradley posted a game-high seven saves—all of which came in the first half— to go with a team-best-tying three groundballs in the loss. Freshman Diana Gurecka (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Seton LaSalle) was in between the pipes for the second half and finished with three saves.

The Jackets hit the road again on Tuesday, April 11, for a PAC contest with Grove City scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
