GREENSBURG, Pa. (Sept. 10) – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team traveled to Pitt Greensburg on Saturday for a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader. The Yellow Jackets were victorious in both matches; beating Pitt Greensburg 3-1 and sweeping Penn State Greater Allegheny 3-0.
Waynesburg (4-3) defeated the host Bobcats (1-6) 25-16, 25-17, 22-25, 25-21. Junior
Madisen Dayton (Ridgeley, W.Va. / Calvary Christian) poured in a match-high 16 kills on a respectable .255 hitting percentage. She added 15 digs, good for second on the squad, which secured her a double-double.
Freshman
Krista Wilson (Greensboro, Pa. / Mapletown) chipped in eight kills to the winning effort. Sophomore
Riley Ruffley (Bedford, Pa. / Bedford) and junior
Jordan Stein (Manor, Pa. / Norwin) played a major role in the offense with 19 and 14 assists, respectively.
Stein recorded a double-double thanks to a contest-best 28 digs. She was one of four Yellow Jackets to reach double digits in digs, joining Dayton, senior
Mickayla Baniaga (Kalihi, Hawaii / Kamehameha Schools Kapalama) and Ruffley, who became the third Jacket to post a double-double.
Junior
Emma Hyatt (Carmichaels, Pa. / Carmichaels) continued to showcase her defensive prowess at the net by tallying a match-best six blocks, all of which were solo stuffs.
Match two pitted the Jackets against the Lions (2-6), whom the Orange and Black swept by the sets scores of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-20. The Waynesburg offense put together maybe its best set of the year in the second, when it hit .419 as a team with 16 kills.
Once again, it was Dayton leading the way, this time posting a contest-best 13 kills with a .423 hitting percentage. She added a match-high 20 digs to wrap up a great trip to Westmoreland County. Senior
Trysten Smith (Senecaville, Ohio / Shenandoah) posted a match-high 14 assists, while Ruffley contributed 12 helpers.
Defensively, Stein joined Dayton in double-digit digs with 14.
Waynesburg goes for a fourth-straight victory on Tuesday, when it hosts La Roche for the 2023 home opener. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
