WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 21) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team welcomed La Roche to town on Thursday afternoon for a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match against the Redhawks. The Yellow Jackets picked up their first win of the season by downing the visitors 7-2.
 
The home team (1-3) featured four players posting 2-0 days.
 
Freshman Karly Starcher (Williamstown, W.Va. / St. Mary's) and sophomore Claire Lace got things going with an 8-2 win at second doubles. Sophomores Alli Bailey (Mount Pleasant, Pa. / Mount Pleasant) and Aubrey Burns (Kittaning, Pa. / Armstrong) followed by downing their opponents at number-three doubles 8-0.
 
All four winners in doubles play added singles victories to their respective days. Lace battled back from dropping the first set in her match at fifth singles to earn a 4-6, 6-2, 7-3 triumph. Bailey, Burns and Starcher took their respective solo contests in straight sets. Freshman Julia Luzar (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) also forged a 3-1, 3-1 singles victory at the number-three flight.
 
Waynesburg is back in action with a busy day tomorrow. The Jackets travel to Allegheny at 2 p.m. and then head to Thiel for a 5 p.m. match.
