Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer rolls past La Roche

Yellow Jackets score early and often in 8-1 win over Redhawks

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 6) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team battled the heat, humidity and visiting La Roche during a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match on Wednesday night. The Yellow Jackets scored early and often en route to an 8-1 win over the Redhawks.

Senior Kate James (Silver Spring, Md. / St. John's College H.S.) needed just 2:01 to put her team on the board. James was set up by junior Brooklyn Loveland (New Cumberland, W.Va. / Oak Glen) on the day's first tally.

The eventual game winner was driven home by sophomore Reagan Mittendorf (Bluffton, Ohio / Bluffton), who recorded an unassisted goal early in the eighth minute. Roughly six minutes later, freshman Julz Mohrbacher continued the torrid start to her collegiate career with her fourth goal in three games to make the score 3-1. Mohrbacher made it five goals in three contests during the 42nd minute to put her squad up 4-0, which was also the score at halftime.

Another Waynesburg freshman (2-1) – Emily Beck (Pittsburgh, Pa. / West Mifflin) – scored her first in Orange and Black during the 49th minute to make the score 5-0. The Jackets got another insurance goal thanks to Mittendorf's third on the year 10 minutes into the half.

Midway through the 79th minute, freshman Kylie Criddle (Lewisburg, W.Va. / Greenbrier East) added her name to the score sheet to make the score 7-0. After La Roche (1-2) got its only score of the contest in the 80th minute, sophomore Riley Corradi (Darlington, Pa. / Blackhawk) closed the game's scoring when she converted an assist from sophomore Rachel Bright (Macomb, Ill. / Macomb).

The final score reflected a lopsided 21-6 advantage in total shots and a 12-3 edge in shots on goal.

Freshman Alexus Greenlief (Chester, W.Va. / Oak Glen) made her second-straight start in goal and improved to 2-0 as a collegiate goalie. She tallied two saves over 90 minutes of work.

The Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 12, when they travel to Pitt Greensburg to face the Bobcats. Start time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
