WOOSTER, Ohio (Jan.22) -- The Waynesburg University women's basketball team dropped a 68-55 road non-conference tilt with The College of Wooster on Monday night at Timken Gymnasium.
The Fighting Scots (5-12, 0-6 NCAC) started the game on a 15-1 run over the first 6:11 of play and led 22-7 after the first quarter.
The Yellow Jackets (4-13, 3-9 PAC) clawed their way back into the game with a 10-0 run over the first 4:29 of the second quarter, forcing a Wooster timeout. Reigning PAC Newcomer of the Week
Julz Mohrbacher (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom) and
Kalista Friday (Woodsfield, Ohio / Monroe Central) accounted for all 10 of the points on the run with 4 and 6, respectively.
Mohrbacher posted her third collegiate double-double with a team-high-tying 11 points and team-best 11 rebounds (six offensive). Of her 11 points, 7 came at the line for the multi-sport athlete.
Friday contributed her first collegiate double-double with a team-high-tying 11 points and 10 rebounds. She added a game-best three steals to go with a team-high-tying three assists in the defeat.
Waynesburg outscored the home team 21-10 in the second quarter and trailed 32-28 at halftime.
The Jackets continued their solid play coming out of the break, using an 8-0 third-quarter run to turn a 34-28 deficit at the 9:01 mark into a 36-34 lead with 5:38 showing on the clock.
Madisen Dayton (Ridgeley, W.Va. / Calvary Christian Academy) accounted for 4 of the 8 points on the Jackets' run with a pair of baskets in the paint. The Scots outscored the Jackets 9-4 the rest of the way in the quarter to hold a slim 43-40 lead heading into the final quarter.
Dayton scored 10 points off the bench for the visitors on 5-of-9 from the field. She added three rebounds and two assists in the contest.
Wooster's lead ballooned to as many as 15 in the final frame as the Jackets were outscored 25-15 in the fourth quarter, spelling the 68-55 final score.
Tori Wesolowski (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) pitched in 8 points off the bench, while
Kayla Howard (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny) notched 6 points and a game-high-tying two blocks in the loss.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Wednesday night when they travel to Washington & Jefferson for a 6 p.m. PAC showdown.
