WASHINGTON, Pa. (Jan. 24) -- The Waynesburg University women's basketball team dropped a 77-51 contest with Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) leading Washington & Jefferson College on Wednesday night at the Salvitti Family Gymnasium.
The Yellow Jackets (4-14, 3-10) held an early 4-2 lead on a freshman
Kayla Howard (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny) fastbreak layup in the first quarter. The Presidents (16-2, 12-1) responded with a 3-pointer on the following possession and ultimately held the lead for the remainder of the game.
Waynesburg trailed 17-11 after the first quarter and 38-25 at the break. The Presidents outscored the Jackets by 13 in each half in route to their 77-51 win.
Freshman
Mia Henkins (Morgantown, W.Va. / Morgantown) posted a game-high-tying 15 points on 5-of-6 at the free-throw line and 4-of-10 from the field for the Jackets.
Fellow freshman
Julz Mohrbacher (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom) added a near double-double with 8 points and eight rebounds while Howard pitched in 7 points and five boards.
Sophomore
Kalista Friday (Woodsfield, Ohio / Monroe Central) contributed a career- and game-best four steals in the loss.
The Yellow Jackets return to the hardwood Saturday, Jan. 27, at 4 p.m. for a PAC matchup with St. Vincent.
