WAYNESBURG, Pa. (October 2) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker, 4-3, to Thiel under the lights at the Bechtle Family Tennis Facility on Wednesday evening.
The Jackets nearly secured their first conference win since 2021 but came a single point shot. Waynesburg falls to 1-7 and 0-5 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play. Thiel moves to 2-6, 1-5 PAC.
Alli Bailey (Mount Pleasant, Pa. / Mount Pleasant) and 
Aubrey Burns (Kittaning, Pa. / Armstrong) took a 6-2 win at third doubles. Thiel won second doubles and pulled out a 7-5 matchup at No. 1 doubles with 
Julia Luzar (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) and 
Alaire Salonsky (Sunbury, Ohio / Big Walnut) nearly taking the flight.
Waynesburg won three singles flights in the match. Bailey and Burns each won in straight sets at fifth and sixth singles. 
Julia Corey (Eighty Four, Pa. / Ringgold) was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at No. 3 singles. 
Luzar won the first set but fell in a third set tiebreak 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 to Thiel's Toby Atwood as the Tomcats escaped Waynesburg with a narrow conference win. 
The Jackets continue PAC play against Geneva on Friday.
