WAYNESBURG, Pa. (October 4) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team was defeated 7-0 by Geneva in the Jackets fall home finale at the Bechtle Family Tennis Facility on Friday evening.
Waynesburg falls to 1-8 on the season and 0-6 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play. Geneva rises to 6-5, 1-5 PAC. Waynesburg won 10 more games in singles play than it did last fall against the Golden Tornadoes.
Alli Bailey (Mount Pleasant, Pa. / Mount Pleasant) and
Aubrey Burns (Kittaning, Pa. / Armstrong) took two games at third doubles but Geneva took the doubles points with wins at all three flights.
In singles action,
Julia Corey (Eighty Four, Pa. / Ringgold) was edged at third singles 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) after going to a tiebreaker in the second set.
Bailey won six games in a 6-3, 6-3 defeat at No. 5 singles and Karley Starcher (Williamston, W. Va. / St. Mary's) won three in a 6-2, 6-1 loss at fourth singles.
The Jackets travel to Grove City next Wednesday.
