WAYNESBURG, Pa. (October 26) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team was defeated 8-0 by Geneva on Saturday afternoon at John F. Wiley Stadium.
The Jackets' record moves to 7-6-3 overall and 3-3-3 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play. Waynesburg's 12 points have the Jackets slotted sixth on the PAC table, ahead of Washington & Jefferson by two points with one game remaining for both teams. Geneva remains unbeaten on the year at 12-0-4, 6-0-3 PAC.
The Golden Tornadoes entered the game only yielding one goal in eight conference games leading up to the contest.
The first half was scoreless for the first 25 minutes before the Golden Tornadoes scored in the 27th, 35th and 38th minutes to build a 3-0 halftime lead. Geneva took 15 shots in the first half compared to one by the Jackets.
Geneva tacked on goals in the 61st and 68th, 74th and 81st and 86th minutes. The Jacket shad a late push with two shots in the last six minutes of regulation but could not break through.
Geneva finished the game with a 26-3 advantage in shots. Waynesburg had six of the seven corner kicks in the game.
Waynesburg concludes its regular season slate at Grove City on Wednesday. A Yellow Jacket win or a W&J loss or tie at Westminster will clinch a PAC Tournament berth for Waynesburg.
