Volleyball downs Westminster on Senior Day

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (October 26) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team earned a five set victory over Westminster on Senior Day in the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse on Saturday.

The Jackets rise to 6-14 on the season and 2-6 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play. Westminster falls to 17-11, 4-2 PAC.

The Jackets won the first, third and fifth sets with a final score line of 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-10.

Kristina Zadrozny (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny) posted a career-high 21 kills with a .447 hitting percentage and two solo blocks. Riley Ruffley (Bedford, Pa. / Bedford) also recorded a career-high with 41 assists in the win. Waynesburg registered team season highs in kills (57), assists (52) and points (73.0).

After the two teams swapped 25-21 set victories, Waynesburg faced an early 7-1 deficit in set three. The Jacked battled back to tie the frame at 14 before Westminster led 21-19. The Jackets scored four-straight points before the Titans knotted the score at 23. Back-to-back points for the Jackets secured the set.

A Titans victory in set four forced a decisive final set. Zadrozny opened the set with three consecutive points as Waynesburg scored six of the first seven points of the frame. The Jacket lead stretched to 10-3. Westminster survived three match points before Zadrozny closed the match with her 21st kill.

The win marks Waynesburg's second-straight win over Westminster. Last season, the Jackets prevailed in five sets in New Wilmington. The Jackets' victory marks the first time beating the Titans in consecutive meetings since 2005.

Krista Wilson (Greensboro, Pa. / Mapletown) added 13 kills, four service aces and six digs. Paige Mortimore (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Brentwood) had 10 kills and seven digs. Emma Hyatt (Carmichaels, Pa. / Carmichaels Area) recorded seven kills and one solo block. Madi Dayton (Ridgeley, W. Va. / Calvary Christian) had four kills and three total blocks.

Jordan Stein (Manor, Pa. / Norwin) had 25 digs in the win. Paige Cousley (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Chartiers Valley) added 12 digs and eight assists.

The Jackets travel to Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday.
