WAYNESBURG, Pa. (October 30) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team fell in three sets to rival Washington and Jefferson in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup on Wednesday night.
The defeat sets Waynesburg at 6-15 overall and 2-6 within PAC play while the Presidents rise to 13-12 overall and 4-4 PAC.
W&J won the game with scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-12.
Both teams opened the first set trading blows as the score was tied in the first 20 points until the Presidents took control of the set with runs of 5-1 and 4-2 to keep a steady lead and take the first set, 25-20.
W&J pulled away early in the second set holding a five-point lead within the first 15. A Jacket 6-2 run brought the score within one (12-11) until the Presidents answered with runs of 4-1 and 9-2 to run away with the second set.
After a series of W&J runs the Presidents obtained an early six-point lead (13-7). After gaining the advantage, W&J never looked back to capture the set and the game with a final score of 25-12.
Offensively Waynesburg was led by sophomore
Kristina Zadrozny (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny) who posted six kills on the night with junior
Paige Mortimore (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Brentwood) and senior
Madi Dayton (Ridgeley, W. Va. / Calvary Christian) each adding four. Junior
Riley Ruffley (Bedford, Pa. / Bedford) led the Jackets in assists with eight while senior
Paige Cousley (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Chartiers Valley) tailed six.
Senior
Jordan Stein (Manor, Pa. / Norwin) along with Dayton and Ruffley led the team in digs with 12 while Cousley recorded with nine.
Waynesburg faces Grove City in their home finale on Nov. 6.
