Yellow Jackets fall 87-65 at Chatham

Jackets unable to overcome 18-point first-half deficit

PITTSBURGH (Feb. 10) -- The Waynesburg University men's basketball team dropped a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown with Chatham University 87-65 on Saturday afternoon at the Athletic and Fitness Center in Pittsburgh.

The Yellow Jackets (12-11, 9-9) trailed 8-6 3:20 into the contest as Jordan McLoyd (Johnson City, Tenn. / Science Hill) buried a pair of 3-pointers. A Jaylen Davis (Cleveland Heights, Ohio / Cleveland Heights) layup at the 14:29 mark cut the Cougars' (16-8, 13-5) lead to 11-10. This was as close as the Jackets got the rest of the afternoon as Chatham outscored Waynesburg 38-21 for the rest of the half to lead 49-31 at the break.

The Cougars grew their lead to as many as 27 points in the second half and outscored the Jackets 38-34 in the final 20 minutes to seal the 87-65 win.

McLoyd notched a team-best 14 points on 4-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range, and 3-of-4 at the line to go with four rebounds and two assists. Jansen Knotts (Ridgeley, W.Va. / Frankfort) pitched in 8 points, 6 of which came from beyond the arc, and three rebounds.

Mikey Smith (Medord, N.Y. / William Floyd) posted the strongest performance of his freshman campaign with 8 points on 4-of-5 from the field and a game-high six rebounds.

Antone Baker (Maple Heights, Ohio / Maple Heights) had 7 points along with three boards. Ryan Felberg (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg) had a team-best four assists to go with 5 points and three rebounds.

Heading into the final week of the regular season, the Jackets hold a one-game lead over Grove City and Westminster for the number-four seed in the PAC Tournament.

The Yellow Jackets return to action next Wednesday for an 8 p.m. PAC battle with Franciscan.
