WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Feb. 26) -- The Waynesburg University women's lacrosse team fell 20-3 in a non-conference tussle with Hanover College Monday night at John F. Wiley Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets (0-3, 0-0 PAC) got on the board first as
Angelina Darpino (Baltimore, Md. / Patapsco) notched her first collegiate goal off of an
Ella Sheedy (Ligonier, Pa. / Ligonier Valley) assist to give the home side an early edge at the 12:21 mark of period one. The Panthers (2-2, 0-0 HCAC) tallied the following four goals over the next 20:46 of game time to lead 4-1 with 9:09 left until the break.
Waverly Lorne (New Providence, N.J. / Governor Livinsgton), the reigning Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Newcomer of the Week, made it 4-2 at the 8:47 clip of period two with her seventh goal of the year. The visitors notched the next eight goals before Lorne added her second of the game to make it 12-3.
Lorne has notched double-digit goal-scoring efforts in all three games this season. She finished Monday's nights contest with game highs in ground balls (six) and caused turnovers (six). She paced the squad in shots (seven) and tied for the team high in draw controls (three).
Waynesburg returns to action Thursday, March 7 for a 4 p.m. non-conference tilt at La Roche.
