NEW CONCORD, Ohio (March 16) – The Waynesburg University women's lacrosse team matched a season-high with eight goals but were defeated 18-8 at Muskingum in a non-conference tilt Saturday afternoon.
The Muskies rise to 6-2 on the season, continuing the best start in program history. The Jackets move to 1-5 on the season.
Muskingum led 4-1 late in the first quarter before a late
Angelina Darpino (Baltimore, Md. / Patapsco) man-down tally brought the margin to 4-2 after 15 minutes of action.
The Muskies took control of the contest with a nine goal second quarter to build a 13-4 halftime lead.
Ella Sheedy (Ligonier, Pa. / Ligonier Valley) scored the opening goal of the second half before four-straight Muskingum scores pushed the game into a running clock
Waverly Lorne (New Providence, N.J. / Governor Livingston) scored three fourth quarter goals to bring the final score to 18-8. The Jackets held Muskingum to just one goal in the fourth quarter and five tallies in the second half.
Lorne led the Jackets with three goals, seven ground balls, all seven of the team's draw controls and eight caused turnovers. Sheedy and Darpino each scored twice with
Mya Riggle (Ford City, Pa. / Armstrong) adding one goal.
Anna Bradley (Bridgeville, Pa. / South Fayette) made 10 stops between the pipes.
Waynesburg travels to Wells next Friday for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference tilt.
