GREENSBURG, Pa. (March 20) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team began its 2024 spring campaign with a narrow 5-4 defeat to Pitt-Greensburg at the Greensburg Racquet Club on Wednesday afternoon.
The Jackets took two of three doubles points to open the match.
Ethan Lown (Lebanon, Pa. / Elizabethtown) and
Adam Huckestein (Saxonburg, Pa. / Knoch) combined for an 8-4 win at top doubles.
Andres Rojas and
Keegan Raabe (Tyrone, Pa. / Tyrone) collected a win via opponent retirement at second doubles.
Lown picked up a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at No. 1 singles to secure a 2-0 day and Thomas Tocaso earned a forfeit win at sixth singles.
Shane Hughes dropped a heartbreaker at No. 5 singles, falling 7-6 (2-0) and 7-4 (4-0) with both sets going to tiebreakers and falling UPG's way. Raabe won eight games but was defeated 7-5, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.
The Jackets return to action against Mount Aloysius on Saturday in Waynesburg at 12:00 p.m.
