WAYNESBURG, Pa. (March 23) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team collected its first win of the season as the Jackets downed Mount Aloysius 6-3 on a chilly afternoon at the Bechtle Family Tennis Facility.
The Jackets rise to 1-3 on the season heading into conference play. The Mount Aloysius falls to 1-8.
Waynesburg swept all three doubles flights to open the match.
Ethan Lown (Lebanon, Pa. / Elizabethtown) and
Adam Huckestein (Saxonburg, Pa. / Knoch) took an 8-4 win at top doubles.
Keegan Raabe (Tyrone, Pa. / Tyrone) and
Andres Rojas won 8-4 at second doubles and
Shane Hughes and
Hayes Ramirez (San Antonio, Texas / William H. Taft) triumphed 8-1 on No. 3 doubles.
The Jackets notched wins at No. 1 and No. 6 doubles to clinch the match. Lown was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at first singles.
Thomas Torcaso posted a 6-0, 6-2 win at sixth singles. Hughes scored a late win at No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-1 to finish out the match.
Waynesburg opens Presidents' Athletic Conference play on Monday at Allegheny.
