Women’s Lacrosse downed at Notre Dame of Maryland


BALTIMORE, Md. (March 25) – The Waynesburg University women's lacrosse team fell 20-6 at Notre Dame of Maryland in Baltimore on Monday afternoon.

The Jackets fall to 1-7 on the season while NDMU moves to 2-3 on the year.
 
The Gators and Jackets traded goals in the opening two minutes. NDMU struck first less than a minute into the contest and Waverly Lorne (New Providence, N.J. / Governor Livingston) responded with a tally at the 13:27 mark of the quarter. Notre Dame took a 2-1 lead less than two minutes later. 

After a six-minute scoreless stretch the hosts finally broke through again. The Gators scored four times in the final five minutes of the quarter to lead 6-1 after 15 minutes of play.

Lorne notched the first score of the second quarter but Notre game notched the next five goals to carry an 11-2 lead into halftime.

The Gators scored the first three goals of the second half to trigger a running game clock. Lorne scored twice in the final five minutes of the third quarter. Rylie Alexander (Mount Clemens, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse High School North) added a goal in the final minute to bring the score to 15-5 heading into the fourth quarter.

Alexander added another tally with 13:20 left in regulation. The Gators added five goals in the fourth quarter and emerged with the 20-6 victory.

Lorne scored four goals, collected seven draw controls, scooped four ground balls and caused three turnovers. Alexander scored twice and had two draw controls. 

Chloe Fields (Linesville, Pa. / Conneaut) had a pair of caused turnovers and three ground balls. Diana Gurecka (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Seton LaSalle) made a dozen saves on the day.

The Jackets went 10-for-13 on clears, marking the most efficient clearing effort of the season for Waynesburg.

The Jackets open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Wednesday at Thiel.
