GREENVILLE, Pa. (March 27) – The Waynesburg University women's lacrosse team began its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) slate with a 18-1 defeat at Thiel on Wednesday evening.
The Jackets fall to 1-8 overall and 0-1 in PAC play. The game concludes a four-game road stretch that saw Waynesburg play in Ohio, New York, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Thiel rises to 5-1, 1-0 PAC.
Waverly Lorne (New Providence, N.J. / Governor Livingston) set Waynesburg's single-game ground ball record with 14 pickups. She added 12 caused turnovers, the second-highest one-game total in team history.
The Tomcats triggered a running clock with six minutes left in the second quarter. The hosts carried an 11-0 lead into halftime.
Angelina Darpino (Baltimore, Md. / Patapsco) notched Waynesburg's lone goal of the night with nine minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Ziomara Reyes (Kearneysville, W.Va. / Martinsburg) collected three ground balls and had two caused turnovers.
Gabriella Provenzano (West Mifflin, Pa. / Serra Catholic) had two CTs.
Diana Gurecka (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Seton LaSalle) made a dozen saves on the evening.
The Jackets host Chatham for a PAC matchup next Wednesday.
