ALTOONA, Pa. (March 26) – The Waynesburg University baseball team dropped both games of a nonconference doubleheader at Penn State Altoona on Tuesday. The Lions won game one 4-2 and took an 8-5 victory in the second two.

Waynesburg falls to 10-10 on the season while PSA rises to 7-8. Both games of the doubleheader were seven inning contests.

Game 1 – Penn State Altoona 4, Waynesburg 2

The Jackets outhit PSA 7-5 and did not have an error while the Lions committed three, but a four-run third inning was enough for the Lions to take game one.

Waynesburg scored the game's first run with an RBI double by Seth Burgdolt (Taylorstown, Pa. / McGuffey) plating Dalton Mount (Sykesville, Md. / Westminster).

The Lions scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the third with two outs. An RBI single was followed by a walk and a three-run home run to give the hosts a 4-1 edge.

Alex Ashbery (Moon Township, Pa. / Moon) scored on a throwing error in the fifth as the Lions were attempting to end the inning with a 5-4-3 double play.

The Jackets brought the tying run to the plate in the sixth and seventh innings but fell 4-2.

Burgdolt and Mount each had two hits. Burdgolt and Ashbery both notched a double.

Zach Scibelli (Ravenna, Ohio / Ravenna) got the start on the mound for Waynesburg and allowed four earned runs in three innings. Mike McCready (Greensburg, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic) tossed there scoreless frames in relief.

Game 2 – Penn State Altoona 8, Waynesburg 5

Five Waynesburg errors led to four unearned runs for the Lions in the second half of the doubleheader. The Jackets trailed 8-0 going into the bottom of the seventh and racked up five extra-base hits in a frantic comeback bid.

PSA took an early 3-0 lead in game two after two errors and a passed ball led to a three-run second inning for the Lions. A solo home run in the third gave the Lions a 4-0 edge.

PSA starting pitcher Tristin Lockett limited the Jackets to just one hit through the game's first five innings.

Three Waynesburg errors, each occurring with two outs, led to two PSA runs in the fifth and grew the hosts' lead to 6-0.

The Lions added a pair two out RBI singles in the bottom of the sixth to extend to an 8-0 advantage.

Lane Ours (Moorefield, W.Va. / Moorefield) opened the sixth with a double. Mount walked and stole second but both runners were stranded as a strikeout and groundout closed the half inning.

Aidan Williams (Shaler, Pa. / Shaler) prevented a shutout with a solo home run to lead off the seventh. Todd Burner (Parkersburg, W.Va. / Parkersburg South) knocked a double off the left-field wall. Ours doubled in Burner and Mount drove in Jordan Mosely (St. Albans, W.Va. / St. Albans) and Ours with a double of his own to make the score 8-4. Ashbery smacked the fourth double of the inning to bring in Mount.

After a pitching change the Lions closed the game with a strikeout to secure the 8-5 win.
