GREENSBURG, Pa. (March 28) – The Waynesburg University softball team racked up 33 hits and 22 runs in a doubleheader sweep over Pitt-Greensburg on Thursday afternoon.
The Jackets rise to 12-5 on the season while UPG falls to 6-8.
Game 1 – Waynesburg 10, Pitt-Greensburg 2
Runs were at a premium in early going as both teams were held scoreless through the first four innings. The Waynesburg bats came alive over the last three innings to secure a convincing game one victory.
Kayla Gratton (Monroeville, Pa. / Gateway) doubled with one out in the fifth and scored the game's first run on a two-out single by 
Sydney Waryanka (Greensburg, Pa. / Hempfield). 
The Jackets added five more runs in the sixth. 
Grace Higgins (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) and Waryanka smacked RBI doubles while 
Bella DeMark (Carnegie, Pa. / Bishop Canevin) and 
Ella Brookman (Washington, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston) had run-scoring singles. Waynesburg scored four runs with two outs in the frame to go ahead 6-0.
The three singles loaded the bases with nobody out loaded the bases for the Jackets in the seventh. A sacrifice fly was followed by a base hit and a bases-clearing double by Brookman to push Waynesburg's lead to 10-0. 
UPG opened the seventh with a solo home run and tacked on another run before 
Autumn Stemple (Morgantown, W.Va. / University) closed out a complete game win. Stemple struck out 10 and allowed just two runs on six hits in the ballgame.
The Jackets recorded a season-high 19 hits. Higgins, Brookman, Waryanka and Rice had three hits each. Brookman had a double and drove in four while Waryanka doubled and had three RBI. Higgins and Demaske each scored twice.
Game 2 – Waynesburg 12, Pitt-Greensburg 0 (5 innings)
The Jackets picked up where they left off in game one with a four-run first inning in game two. DeMark, Trinith Edge (Franklin, Pa. / Franklin) and 
Katelynn Britenbaugh (Glenshaw, Pa. / Shaler) each had RBI singles. 
Waynesburg grew its lead to 12-0 with eight runs in the third. 
Kaitlyn Jagielski (Imperial, Pa. / West Allegheny) belted a two-run home run after a leadoff double by Edge. The Jackets batted around and Jagielski drove in another two runs with a double. Six of Waynesburg's eight runs scored in the third were unearned as the Jackets took advantage of three UPG errors.
The Panthers finally got their first hit off Edge, the Waynesburg game two starter, in the fourth and pushed across one run. 
Brynn Charnesky (Southmoreland) worked a scoreless fifth inning to secure the run-rule victory.
Edge went 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI, three runs scored and was the winning pitcher. In the circle she allowed one hit and one run in four innings with four strikeouts.
Jagielski had three hits, a home run, a double, four RBI and a run scored. DeMark and Britenbaugh each drove in a pair. 
Kassidy Trimble and Demark each scored twice. 
Waynesburg matched its season-high for runs scored. The Jackets' 14 hits were the second-most in a single game behind the opening game of the twin bill. 
The Jackets host La Roche in a nonconference doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
