DAVENPORT, Fla. (March 7) -- The Waynesburg University baseball team fell 18-4 to Russell Sage College on day four of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational Thurday morning.
The Yellow Jackets (4-2, 0-0 PAC) trailed 1-0 in the first inning as
Seth Burgdolt (Taylorstown, Pa. / McGuffey) brought in
Dalton Mount (Sykesville, Md. / Westminster) with an RBI single.
Jordan Mosely (St. Albans, W.Va. / St. Albans) added a single in the next at bat then
Alec Engelmore (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) knocked in Burgdolt with a single to make it 2-1. Garret Comer (St. Albans, W.Va. / St. Albans) brought home Engelmore with another single to make it 3-1.
The Gators (4-5, 0-0 Empire 8) took control from there and scored the next 17 runs to make it 18-4 in the seventh.
Strachan Doran (Rhinebeck, N.Y. / Rhinebeck) knocked in
Connor Hamrick (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) with a run-scoring single in the seventh to spell the 18-4 seven-inning final.
Comer got the start and went three innings, allowing six hits and 5 earned runs. He struck out one and walked one.
The Jackets conclude play at the RussMatt Friday when they take on Trine in a pair of seven-inning doubleheaders starting at 9:45 a.m. from the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.
