WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 17) – The Waynesburg University women's lacrosse team returned to action at John F. Wiley Stadium for the first time in over a month as the Jackets hosted Franciscan on Wednesday evening. The Barons took a 23-4 victory.
Waynesburg falls to 1-13 on the season and 0-6 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play. Franciscan rises to 2-9, 2-4 PAC.
Waverly Lorne (New Providence, N.J. / Governor Livingston) scored two of the game's first three goals to hand the Jackets a 2-1 edge six minutes into the contest. The Barons scored the next goals into the quarter to carry a 9-2 lead into the second period.
Franciscan triggered a running clock with 11:45 left in the second quarter.
Rylie Alexander (Mount Clemens, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse High School North) scored the Jackets' lone goal of the quarter with an end-to-end tally with 6:34 left in the first half.
Ella Sheedy (Ligonier, Pa. / Ligonier Valley) scored in the final minute of regulation as the Baron secured the 23-4 win.
Lorne finished with two goals, eight ground balls, five draw controls and four caused turnovers. Zimoara Reyes (Kearneysville, W.Va. / Martinsburg) logged four caused turnovers and two ground balls. Alexander and Sheedy each scored once.
Diana Gurecka (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Seton LaSalle) posted 14 saves and four ground balls in the contest.
The Jackets travel to Washington & Jefferson on Saturday.
